PayGo Energy

PayGo Energy provides clean, fast and affordable cooking gas to people living in slums in Nairobi, Kenya. PayGo’s smart gas meter notifies the back office as soon as a customer is low on cooking gas. An agent then goes to the customer’s house with a full gas cylinder before the customer runs out. PayGo needed a digital system to facilitate this process.

I designed a mobile app for the agents and an online dashboard for the managers. The main challenge was to come up with a solution to the specific difficulties that employees encounter while working in a slum. For example: how do you find a customer’s house if the house has no address? And how do you make sure the app still functions if there’s no internet connection? By doing several user tests I made sure the app and dashboard are super user friendly and support the employees in their daily work.
